Good thing I really like mail.

Families' #1 challange
to making lifebooks
is not enough time.
Look for tips on how to
'get more'
in upcoming newsletters.
======================
How Do You Eat a 12 pound Chocolate Bar?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One bite at a time.....
Looking at the entire task (for anything)
is overwhelming.
It helps to break it down
and set goals.
Small goals.
Something you actually can do.
Here are some suggestions:
---gather your lifebook materials in one place
---go shopping for materials
---jot down notes
---make a page outline
---look at adoption photos
you get the idea.
Take action.
Can you identify one small lifebook goal
for the upcoming week?
The energy you get from one step
might give you some momentum.
The Internet has forever changed
the world
of foster care and adoption.
Check this out.
International adoptive families are now:
all month.
BUT
the Mom who won the massage
did not read the newsletter
Personal Stuff
**********************************
It's very hard to know
when my toddler daugther
is simply repeating
phrases
or actually
knos what she is talking about.
We read 'The Family Book' by
Todd Parr.
Great book which describes
what a family is....
what's normal for a family to do....
or pictures of what families look like....
(normalizing differences)
feelings they have....
It's very funny.
(i.e. families look like their dog)
There's a page on sadness
when a family loses a member.
There a picture of a goldfish bowl
with 2 fish
then 1 fish.
Yesterday my daugther saw a balloon
floating alone in the ocean.
She asked'what happened?'
I said the balloon got lost.
She answers 'Like me---I lost my family'
Did I hear her right?
My 2.9 year old daugther?
"Which family" I asked back?
3 times.
Finally she answered with her birthmother's first name.
'No--- we know where she is." I tell her.
You have 2 families and no one is lost."
I flash back to my childhood
playing 'lost'games
Damn it.
I can't take away her pain.
We go home.
Play with Teddy.
We pretend that teddy is lost and gets a new family.
Again and again
We sit down and read her toddler lifebook.
I know that the pieces are somehow coming together.
Thank god she doesn't have to keep it inside her
and really be alone with those questions.
That's what I can do for her.
